There are gifts of Grace in every moment that can be best seen through spacious eyes, the eyes of a child. Many of us live our lives in a constant state of worry and fear, dealing with one problem after another while filled to the brim with thoughts and plans of the future. This kind of living occupies one’s mind and covers one’s heart. Finding space and emptiness of mind allows the heart to rise in Grace. To many, emptiness is a place of lack – a way to lose sense of self. If we are empty, our minds equate that to loss, and the struggle to avoid it is to our minds the “Carrying of the Cross” that prayer and scriptures taught us. Our greatest fears and struggles are those thoughts of being empty, lonely, without someone or something to fill the emptiness inside us.
